Russia has found the «key» to treating infectious diseases

The global COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the critical importance of timely diagnostics of infectious diseases, according to scientists from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). Traditional methods such as PCR, although reliable, often require specialized equipment and a significant amount of time to obtain results.

The technology being developed at the university allows for the rapid and accurate diagnosis of a wide range of pathogens, including an assessment of their resistance to antibiotics, according to SPbPU specialists. Delays in treatment or the wrong choice of antibiotics can lead to serious complications and even death.

The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that it is based on the use of an integrated approach, including the development and production of all necessary components, including a portable device and a set of reagents.

The study is being carried out with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education within the framework of the Priority 2030 program of the Science and Universities national project. The project is additionally financed by an industrial partner.
